Am I in demo mode?

How to recognize demo mode, what its sample data means, and how to get back to your own account.

You can tell in two taps. Tap the settings icon at the top right and look at the Account section:

  • A single row reading Exit Demo Mode means you are in demo mode.

  • Profile, Sign Out Everywhere, Delete Account and Logout mean you are signed in to your own account, and the balances you are looking at are yours.

Demo mode is a look around Capitowl with sample data in it, so nobody has to link a bank account to see what the app does.

Other signs you are in demo mode

  • How you got in. Demo mode starts from the Try Demo Mode card at the bottom of the sign-in screen, the one reading Peek inside with sample data · no signup. There is no other way in, so if you did not tap it, you are not in demo mode.

  • What appears when you tap something that needs a real account. A message opens headed You’re exploring in Demo Mode, with two buttons: Keep exploring and Exit Demo Mode.

Everything in demo mode is sample data

Every balance, transaction, budget, goal and projection in demo mode is sample data we supply. None of it comes from a bank, none of it is yours, and nothing you change there is kept. Demo mode also connects to nothing — linking a bank and anything else needing a live connection are all held back while you explore.

To leave demo mode

  1. Tap the settings icon at the top right.

  2. Under Account, tap Exit Demo Mode.

  3. You are returned to the sign-in screen, and the sample data is cleared.

One thing to know before you start: entering demo mode signs out whatever account was signed in on the device. We keep your real session and the demo session completely apart on purpose, but it means you have to sign in again afterwards with your email address and password.

If Settings shows neither Exit Demo Mode nor Profile

Your session is part-way through signing out. Close Capitowl completely, reopen it, and sign in. If that does not clear it, email [email protected].
